Field Hockey
GRAA Field Hockey is open to girls in 3rd-8th grade. We hope to have four teams registered in the Northern New Jersey Youth Field Hockey League; two for 5th/6th graders (Junior Varsity) and two for 7/8th graders (Varsity). For information on the 3rd-4th grade program, please view below. Games in this league take place on Sundays (2:00 for JV and 3:00 Varsity) from Early September until the end of October. There are two 20 minute halves in JV games and two 25 minute halves for the Varsity team. The teams practice twice a week for 90 minutes starting in mid August and continue after school throughout the season. Practice and home field location TBD.

Girls of all levels of play and experience are welcome. There is no tryout process for this program. All players will be given a spot on the team and equal opportunity to participate. The focus of the program is to develop the player’s knowledge of field hockey and its skills, while having fun and promoting good sportsmanship. The players are required to wear and provide their own field hockey stick, mouth guard, shin guards and cleats. Goalie equipment and uniform will be provided. Parents and volunteers are encouraged to help coach and get involved as much as possible.

Registration for the Fall 2009 teams to begin in May 2009.

Attention all 3rd-4th grade girls…registration has opened for the Fall 2009 season of the GRAA Field Hockey. Anyone interested in joining this fast growing and exciting Field Hockey program is encouraged to register online at graa.org. All levels of experience welcome and encouraged. This is a developmental program where the sport is introduced to new players, skills are developed as the player matures, and an emphasis is placed on learning to love the game of field hockey. All players will be given a chance to learn the game. There is no tryout process. All girls will practice together once a week for 90 minutes beginning in late August (times and location to be determined). Regular Season Practices will be on Saturday mornings (9:00am – 10:30am) at clay field beginning the Saturday after Labor Day and continuing on Saturdays through October. The cost of the program is $50 per athlete. This will cover the High School Assistant coaches, and a T-shirt. Each player must provide their own field hockey stick, mouth guard, cleats and shin guards. A great website for equipment is www.longstreth.com. They have amazing deals for beginner equipment packages that are very cheap. They also carry the smaller sticks that are appropriate for young players…
