REGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2023 IS NOW OPEN!
Philosophy
GRAA Girls Lacrosse will accommodate every player, there are no cuts. Girls develop differently and at different times, so we believe it is important to welcome all players into our program. Preseason training is available for all players. We look forward to seeing everyone on the fields this spring! We are GR!
We are excited to start the 2023 season of GRAA girls lacrosse! The season will start in March for all girls in grades Pre-K - 8:
Grades PreK-2 learn the fundamentals of lacrosse at Sunday afternoon clinics starting March 19th, weather permitting.
Grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 are full travel teams. Practices this year will start indoors in March. Teams will play approximately 12 games from April 1st - May 30th as well as a regional NJ tournament on Sunday, May 7th for which your child will need to have a US Lacrosse number.
New this year, we will have separate developmental training sessions for new and newer travel team players in Grades 5-8.
This year, we are trying a pilot program in which the head coaches of our 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 teams will be professional coaches, with parent volunteers providing essential assistance at practices and games. We will assess this format when we conduct our year-end survey and are interested in feedback during the season, as well. Parent support and assistance has always been, and will continue to be, key to our success!
Clinic
Weather permitting, the PreK - Grade 2 clinic will be held at Carteret Park on Sunday afternoons. This season, the clinic will be led by professional trainers, working with members of the high school girls lacrosse team.
Players will be separated by grade (Clinic 1: preK/K and Clinic 2: Grades 1-2). Clinic 1 will introduce girls to lacrosse and enable them to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse. Clinic 2 will focus on learning the game of lacrosse. Each girl will receive a GRAA girls lacrosse t-shirt and a new stick will be provided for those who do not have one. Girls must have protective eyewear at each clinic.
Travel Teams
The travel teams, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 will start practices the first week of March and run through the last week of May, playing 12 games and at least one tournament with JGLA member town teams. Everyone is required to have a US Lacrosse Membership to play and can be found here: USA Lacrosse Membership
Grade 3/4 Travel
Players will continue to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse, including the goalie, defense, middle, and attack positions as well as game plays and strategy. Girls will play different positions to learn the full game. Girls on the 3/4 grade travel teams will have at least one or two weeknight practices, one weeknight game, and/or one Saturday game. Additionally, at the discretion of the coach, and upon field availability, additional practices might be added. We will have at least two teams of evenly skilled players. Each player must provide her own protective eyewear, cleats, and stick. Head coaches will be professional trainers. We also need at least 2 parents per practice or game to assist the trainers. Please volunteer to sign up once the schedule is released!
Grades 5/6 Travel and Grade 7/8 Travel
Players will continue to learn the game of lacrosse, positions, structured plays, and strategy. Girls will have the opportunity to play different positions to increase their game IQ. Girls on the 5/6 and 7/8 travel teams will have at least one or two weeknight practices, one weeknight game, and/or one Saturday game. Additionally, at the discretion of the coach, and upon field availability additional practices might be added. If an additional game is scheduled on a practice night, there will not be practice on that night and a Friday or weekend practice time will be offered at the discretion of the coach. Based on registration, we may have A and B teams based on skill level and to ensure that each player gets equal playing time. Each player must provide her own protective eyewear, cleats, and stick. Head coaches will be professional trainers. We also need at least 2 parents per practice or game to assist the trainers. Please volunteer to sign up once the schedule is released!

STICKS: The lacrosse stick is the most important piece of equipment! Make sure that your daughter has an age-appropriate, legal stick.
HEADGEAR: Protective headgear for girls lacrosse is optional equipment and must comply with the ASTM standard F3137. This is all clearly explained on the US Lacrosse (USL) site that includes FAQs and a helpful head gear video.
GOGGLES: Goggles must be worn at all practices and games. Goggles should be SEI certified.
MOUTHGUARDS: Mouthguards protect from injury and should not attach to eyewear.
There is a great equipment fit guide by US Lacrosse that you can refer to here!
