WHAT IS PLAY-PRACTICE-PLAY?

Play-Practice-Play is a Grassroots developed philosophy designed around a player-centered approach to coaching. Taking a player centered approach places the needs and motivations of the player at the forefront of a coach’s approach to coaching his or her players. The concept of Play-Practice-Play is to allow young players to experience the game and game-like situations as much as possible. This approach differs from traditional practices that may have children standing in lines, running laps and participating in drills that don’t resemble the game of soccer. READ MORE

WHAT IS SILENT SOCCER?

The US Youth Soccer's recommended coaching style is called 'Silent Soccer' and the intended result is to let the kids make their own decisions and learn/grow from the results, regardless if the results of the decision were positive or negative. READ MORE ON PAGE 42

 

WHAT IS PROPER SOCCER PARENT ETIQUETTE?

US Youth Soccer's recommendations for parents:

-Avoid coaching from the sidelines
-Do not criticize the referee
-Focus on the benefits of the game rather than the score
-Think when interacting with opposing fans
-Save issues with the coach for the next day

WHY IS SOCCER ROSTERED BY BIRTH YEAR AND NOT BY GRADE?

Using birth year registration ensures that players are training and playing in the proper age group, each with their own developmental needs. READ MORE FOR US Soccer's reasoning for using Birth Year instead of Grade Level for rostering soccer teams.

WHY DO PRACTICE TIMES START AT 3:30PM?

Due to the limited field space without lighting and 400 players across 3 programs (Travel, Festival, Developmental) we have to use as much daylight time as possible.
